ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME
CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE I – NAME
The name of the of the Organization shall be the "Haddon Township High School Athletic Hall of Fame" with its principal office located at Haddon Township High School, 406 Memorial Avenue, Westmont, New Jersey, 08108.
ARTICLE II – PURPOSE
The purpose of the Organization is to recognize Haddon Township High School graduates and teams that have demonstrated outstanding prowess in athletics and others who have made distinctive contributions to the athletic programs of Haddon Township.
ARTICLE III – EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
MEMBERS: The Executive Committee shall be composed of twelve (12) to fifteen (15) members as follows: the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Executive Director, Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, High School Principal (or his designated representative), and five (5) to seven (7) at large members. The Executive Director shall be the Athletic Director of Haddon Township High school.
OFFICERS: Chairperson-shall preside at all meetings; appoint all committees and committee chairpersons; be a standing member of all committees; and call general and special meetings as needed.
Vice Chairperson- shall serve as the Chairperson in the absence of the Chairperson.
Executive Director- shall perform administrative duties as directed by the Executive Committee and shall maintain continuity of the Organization.
Corresponding Secretary- shall be responsible for preparing the requisite correspondence in connection with the organizations activities.
Recording Secretary- shall take minutes of the Executive Committee meetings and mail them to each prior to the next scheduled meeting.
Treasurer- shall maintain the books of the Organization and shall provide a report at each meeting. A written report shall be prepared once a year after the induction ceremony.
LENGTH OF TERM:
Members- term of service shall be indefinite.
Executive Committee Officers- term as an officer, with the exception of the Executive Director whose term as an officer is indefinite, shall be three (3) years. There shall be no term limit on officers, however, every three (3) years, every officer’s term must be renewed by an affirmative vote of at least 2/3 of the entire present Executive Committee. Any member of the Executive Committee may run for any position/office during a three (3) year review process.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Committee shall be the governing body of the Haddon Township High School Athletic Hall of Fame and shall be responsible for making all decisions regarding who shall be inducted into the Hall of Fame, who shall serve on various committees, as to what expenses shall be paid, who shall be awarded scholarships, and any other matters that shall be necessary for the operation of this entity.
EXECUTIVE POWERS: An affirmative vote of at least 2/3 of the entire Executive Committee shall have the power to appoint and/or remove any Executive Committee member or other committee member. The passage of other actions will also require at least 2/3 affirmative vote of the entire Executive Committee.
ARTICLE IV – TRUSTEES
The Trustees of the organization shall be the Executive Committee Officers, i.e. the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Executive Director, Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary and Treasurer.
ARTICLE V - MEETINGS
There is an annual meeting held in September at the organization's principal office or at such place as the Executive Committee may designate by resolution. Additional or emergency meetings may be called at the discretion of the Chairman of the Executive Committee upon 24 hours notice to all Committee members.
ARTICLE VI - FISCAL YEAR
The fiscal year of the organization shall be from July 1 through June 30.
ARTICLE VII - COMMITTEES
EXECUTIVE SELECTION COMMITTEE: shall consist of no more than five (5) members of the Executive Committee and is responsible for exercising all procedures for the selection and induction of all Haddon Township High School Hall of Fame honorees.
SELECTION COMMITTEE: shall consist of no more than fifteen (15) “voting” members comprised of members of the Executive Selection Committee and at large volunteers (3 members of the Executive Committee and 12 members at large). The exact make-up of the Selection Committee may vary year-to-year, however, the members from Executive Selection Committee shall never exceed one third (1/3) of the entire Selection Committee. All votes by members of the Selection Committee shall be given equal weight, regardless of whether they are an at-large member or an Executive Selection Committee member.
SELECTION COMMITTEE MEETING: the Selection Committee shall meet one time per year in July or August.
THE SELECTION COMMITTEE: One Executive Committee Member shall serve as the Chairman, but shall not vote and shall not count towards 1/3 vote.
DUTIES OF THE CHAIR OF THE SELECTION COMMITTEE: The chair of the Selection Committee shall be responsible for overseeing and directing the annual Selection Committee Meeting, which shall include encouraging a discussion on the merits of all candidates, recording the Selection Committee members’ votes and reporting the results of the votes to the Executive Committee at the September meeting.
LENGTH OF TERM: of service of a member of any committee shall be at the pleasure of the Executive Committee.
ARTICLE VIII – CRITERIA
GRADUATES: Must be a Haddon Township High School Graduate of at least five (5) years. Must have demonstrated character, citizenship and leadership through and beyond the high school career. Consideration will be given to the number of activities in which an individual has participated, the recognition achieved in athletic competition with others outside of high school, and achievement of exemplary status in a single sport (e.g. State Championship, professional status, outstanding college career).
COACHES: Must have been a coach at Haddon Township High School for at least ten (10) years, and he/she must have been out of coaching at Haddon Township High School for at least five (5) years. Must have demonstrated character, citizenship and leadership throughout their career. Consideration will be given to the number of activities in which an individual has participated.
TEAMS: Must be Haddon Township High School Graduate of at least five (5) years. Must have won a league championship and/or NJSIAA championship.
OTHERS: Must have made distinctive contributions to the athletic programs in the Haddon Township community. Must have demonstrated character, citizenship and leadership throughout their career. Consideration will be given to the number of activities in which an individual has participated.
WAITING PERIOD EXCEPTION: The waiting period before a candidate is eligible may be waived for extenuating circumstances. A waiver of the waiting period must be approved by an affirmative vote of at least 2/3 of the entire present Executive Committee.
ARTICLE IX – INDUCTEE CLASS
NUMBER OF INDUCTEES: There shall be no more than seven (7) categories of inductees in one year.
CATEGORIES: The categories of inductees shall consist of the following: Four (4) – (5) individual athletes, one (1) team and one or two (2) coaches/community members in accordance with the following conditions:
Individual Athletes– there shall be between four (4) and five (5) individual inductees every year based upon the decade in which they attended Haddon Township High School. At the current time there are five (5) decades: 60’s, 70’s, 80’s 90’s, 2000’s.
Combining Decades: Upon an affirmative vote of at least 2/3 of the entire present Executive Committee two or more decades may be combined into one category. By way of example, the decades of the 60’s and 70’s, which are currently two (2) separate categories with one inductee each, may be combined to one category with one (1) total inductee.
Creating New Decades: a new decade for candidates shall be created at the end of their respective decade. By way of specific example, the 2011-2020 decade shall be created in 2020. A candidate who becomes eligible for induction prior to the creation of the decade which they attended Haddon Township High School shall initially be included in the decade prior to their respective decade until creation of their respective decade. By way of specific example, a graduate from 2011 who becomes eligible in 2016 will be included in the 2000 decade from 2016 until 2020, at which time they will be included in the newly created 2011 through 2020 decade.
Coaches/Community Members: There shall be one coach and/or one community member inductee every year.
ARTICLE X - SELECTION PROCESS
Anyone may nominate a candidate/team for induction to the Haddon Township High School Athletic Hall of Fame to the Executive Selection Committee.
PRESENTATION TO SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Executive Committee shall review all nominations on a yearly basis and shall, by a majority vote, select up to five (5) eligible candidates for each individual category (decades, team, coach/community member). These candidates shall then be submitted to the Selection Committee.
The Selection Committee will then individually rank the top three candidates, in each category by Australian ballot, (with three being highest and one being the lowest). All votes of the Selection Committee members shall be given equal weight.
The chair of the Selection Committee shall receive the ballots and present the rankings from the Selection Committee to the Executive Committee.
SELECTION OF INDUCTEE
The top vote getter shall be inducted. A nominee must receive 2/3 of the vote of the Executive Committee in order to become an inductee. The highest vote getter shall be notified at the September meeting, if the inductee declines, the next highest vote getter shall be presented to the Executive Committee, and so on.
ARTICLE XI - AWARDS
At the annual awards ceremony, an individual plaque will be presented to each individual honoree inducted into the Haddon Township High School Hall of Fame. In the case of a team, an appropriate certificate will be presented to each team member. The recipients will also be presented with a lifetime home passes to all Haddon Township High School varsity athletic events. The inductee's name and picture, along with a narrative about the individual and his/her respective accomplishments will be on permanent display on the Hall of Fame wall at Haddon Township High School. In the case of a team, the team's name and picture, along with a narrative about the team's respective accomplishments will be on permanent display on the Hall of Fame wall at Haddon Township High School.
ARTICLE XII – AMENDMENTS
A written request for a first reading of proposed amendments to these Articles may be made at a regular or special meeting of the Executive Committee. If the request is approved by the Executive Committee the second reading of the proposed amendments shall take place and the Executive Committee shall vote on the proposed amendments. On approval of the Executive Committee the proposed amendments shall become part of these Articles.
ARTICLE XIII – DISSOLUTION
In the event of the liquidation of dissolution of the Organization, whether voluntary or involuntary, no member shall be entitled to any distribution or division of its remaining property or its proceeds. No part of the income of the Organization shall inure to the benefit of any member, trustee, Director or officer of the organization, or any private individual (except that reasonable compensation may be rendered to or for the Organization affecting one or more of its purposes), and no member, trustee, Director, officer of the Organization or any private individual to share in the distribution of any of the Organization’s assets upon dissolution of the Organization. The balance of all money or other property received by the Organization from any source, after payment of all debts and obligations of the Organization, shall be distributed by the Executive Committee in such a manner and to such organization or organizations as the Executive Committee shall determine, provided however, that such organization or organizations shall be organized and operated exclusively for charitable, educational or scientific purposes and at such time shall qualify as an exempt organization under the provisions of Section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, (or the corresponding provisions of any future United States Internal Revenue Law). Any such assets not so disposed of shall be disposed by a Court of competent jurisdiction in Camden County, New Jersey, for the purpose and to such organizations as are described herein above.
ARTICLE XIV – AUTONOMY
The Haddon Township Athletic Hall of Fame is an autonomous body, and hereby expressly reserves the right to operate independently of Haddon Township High School, notwithstanding any association with same for tax, support staff, or other purposes.
